A local Fine Gael backbencher says they should act soon enough on a leadership heave.
It comes ahead of a parliamentary party meeting this evening where Enda Kenny is expected to come under pressure from his colleagues after last nights Dáil performance.
The Taoiseach seemed to be at odds with the Children’s Minister over who knew what, and when about the allegations of a smear campaign against Maurice McCabe.
Speaking on KCLR Live earlier John Paul Phelan says he thinks replacing their party leader should happen within weeks:
“This week has shown that the government is in a precarious position and that we should act soon enough in that regard. Soon enough being within the next 6 or 8 weeks anyway, I think.”
Meanwhile a meeting between the Taoiseach and Independent Alliance is to take place this afternoon on the future of the minority government.
The group are said to be concerned at inconsistencies in Enda Kenny’s comments in the Dái.
