Dramatic scenes in Kilkenny city last evening after a swan crashed into the upper floors of a building and tumbled to the ground.
It happened on Ormonde Street just before 8pm, the large bird hitting the top of the multi-storey carpark before landing on the pavement below.
Eye witnesses have told KCLR News that it appeared to be quite badly injured with passerbys quick to form a cordon as help was sought from experts.
Kilkenny Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KSPCA) dispatched animal welfare officer Noel O’Donoghue to the scene and with Pat Durkin of BirdWatch Ireland’s local branch managed to get the waterbird back to its natural surroundings of the River Nore.
