Around 350 vehicles participated in a farmers’ protest through Waterford City last night.
The event, organised by IFA members in Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny, saw a convoy of tractors, jeeps and cars pass through the city to highlight farmers’ frustrations with increased regulation of their industry.
Carlow woman, Alice Doyle, Deputy President of IFA, outlined why the ‘Enough is Enough’ protest was organised.
“Well, the first thing I think is we’ve given the farmers an opportunity to vent the frustration. They are extremely frustrated, as you can see.
When you see over 350 tractors, jeeps, trailors coming through the city of Waterford this evening from South Kilkenny, from South Wexford and from Waterford and that’s only the south of the other two counties, not the whole counties.
I think the first thing you see is that people need to vent their frustration, to show how frustrated they are with the whole situation. They’re totally over-regulated, and it’s bad enough being regulated, but to be over-regulated by regulations that are totally impractical.”
