Kilkenny man David Carter will today begin his Ultra 300 Challenge in a bid to raise funds for three local and national organisations.
The Gowran native is undertaking to run 50km each day to Saturday with routes not just in his home county, but also neighbouring Carlow, Wexford, Waterford, Tipperary and Kildare.
The hope is to gather €60,000 for the Dillon Quirke Foundation, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Young Ireland’s GAA & Camogie Club.
It will all finish up in Gowran on the date his late father, Charlie Carter, would have celebrated his 75th birthday – he passed away in 2010 and the event is taking place in his memory.
David will document his entire fundraising journey on social media via Instagram & TikTok (@ultra300challenge). As well as family, friends and colleagues from Ornua, owner of the world-famous Kerrygold brand, joining him along some of the routes, David is asking people around the globe to run in unison to help raise funds via www.ultra300challenge.com and sponsor him through iDonate (Young Irelands GAA & Camogie Club Kilkenny | Online Fundraising (idonate.ie))
He’s been telling KCLR News’ Edwina Grace how he’s feeling as he prepares for the off at about 9:30am this morning from Gowran National School;
