Fianna Fail TD for Carlow/Kilkenny John McGuinness has defended his right to hire his son.
It follows an article in the Irish Daily Mail on Monday reporting on how many politicians have hired parents, spouses, siblings and children for well-paid jobs in Leinster House.
Deputy McGuinness’s son Andrew is employed as his secretarial assistant, a role which typically comes with a salary of up to €52,000.
However, Andrew McGuinness has pointed out to KCLR that he is part-time and has confirmed his salary is €25,272.03 annually.
Speaking to KCLR this morning, Deputy McGuinness says he’s happy with the job Andrew does.
