Agricultural land in Ireland is up by 5% an acre according to the Irish Farmers Journal Agricultural Land Price Report.
The highest price paid was in Dublin where an acre cost just under €25,000 while the biggest increase was in County Meath where an acre rose to more than €17,500.
Irish Farmers Journal news correspondent Paul Mooney said the figures in the south east were particularly strong, noting “We saw a strong increase in County Wexford for example, Wexford land prices last year were the second highest at close to €18,000 per acre, it’s a very busy county each year for land sales anyway but good quality farms and land came on sale and prices rose accordingly in Wexford last year”.
Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow and Tipperary with Cork and Donegal all saw prices fall from recent highs.
Added to that it appears derelict houses can now add an extra €100,000 or more to land sales, depending on how strict the local county council is on planning.
