TJ Reid says it is a huge honour to be named Kilkenny captain for the 2026 season, but insists the role will not alter his approach or responsibilities within the panel.
The seven-time All-Star and seven-time All-Ireland winner was speaking to KCLR at today’s Tirlán sponsorship announcement, where he outlined his mindset and ambitions for the year ahead.
Reid played down any suggestion of added pressure that comes with the captaincy, stressing that leadership is about actions rather than titles.
“There’s no onus, there’s no added pressure on me whatsoever,” he said. “You just have the title. Leadership comes down to actions and for me this year, it’s no different than, say, ten years ago.
“The only thing captaincy has to do with, if you win, is you collect the cup on behalf of the team. We have great leaders across the group and across the team, so this year it’s just about getting back and enjoying it.”
Reid also spoke about the importance of enjoying his hurling and contributing in whatever way he can as Kilkenny continue their push to return to the top.
