DCU booked their place in the Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup Final after a hard-fought 1-20 to 1-16 victory over UCC at SETU Carlow, with a strong Kilkenny presence playing a crucial role in their success.
Graignamanagh’s Ivan Bolger, Young Irelands’ Paddy Langton, and Carrickshock’s Padraig Lennon formed a formidable full-back line, while Dicksboro’s Padraic Moylan and Glenmore’s Billy Reid lined out in the half-back line, reinforcing DCU’s defensive unit.
Dunamaggin’s Denis Walsh, who made a significant impact in attack by scoring six points from placed balls, was positioned in the half-forward line. Meanwhile, Carlow’s Conor Kehoe, representing St. Mullins, provided reinforcement off the bench.
The DCU panel also features additional Kilkenny talent, including Bennettsbridge’s Bill Hughes, Mount Leinster Rangers’ Donagh Murphy, Blacks & Whites’ Sam Byrne, Graignamanagh’s Ted Dunne, and Rower-Inistioge’s Eoin O’Brien.
Elsewhere, Kilkenny’s Killian Doyle, representing the Emeralds and a key player for his county, contributed a point as UL secured a dominant 1-28 to 0-10 win over MTU Cork in the other semi-final.
The highly anticipated Fitzgibbon Cup Final will see DCU face UL this Saturday at 2:45 PM at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence. Fans can tune in to KCLR for live coverage of the showdown.
