Schools across Kilkenny and Carlow will be taking part in a nationwide campaign to mark Safer Internet Day today.
Research carried out to coincide with Safer Internet Day shows 28 percent of children are in contact with a stranger online either occasionally or every day.
The survey also shows that Snapchat, Instagram and You Tube are the most popular social media apps among children.
This is the fourth year of the initiative that aims to promote internet safety amongst all age groups, but especially children.
In Carlow the Presentation College, Askea and Rathoe National School are taking part while in Kilkenny St Brendan’s school in Muckalee, Loreto Secondary School on the Granges Road in the city and St Brendan’s in Hugginstown are also participating.
