More than 2 million euro has been granted for a major regeneration project in Thomastown.
Funding worth 62 million euro for 66 projects in rural communities has been announced by Minister Michael Ring.
The idea is to use the money to create jobs, rejuvenate communities and transform local economies.
Thomastown is the big local beneficiary – a spend of nearly 2.1 million euro will see the redevelopment of the community centre into a public library and digital enterprise hub.
Manager there, Seamus Quigley says this is just what Thomastown needs.
The plan will also see the old court house converted into a Craft & Design centre while there’ll be an upgrade to the Quayside carpark and public realm works in Lowe St and Logan St.
It’s not the only local project getting funding though – Altamount in Carlow is also in line for a boost of 450 thousand to refurbish the house and gardens there.
While 60 thousand has been granted to Kilkenny leader partnership to develop a network of community shops in the county.
