Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has welcomed the latest announcement regarding changes to pay-related social welfare.
These changes take effect today for individuals with a strong work history. Anyone who becomes unemployed from today and has made at least five years of PRSI contributions will have their jobseeker’s benefit linked to their previous earnings.
The benefit is structured into three different payment rates over 13-week periods, starting at a maximum of €450 per week, decreasing to €375, and then to €300, before a weekly minimum rate of €125 is applied.
Minister Murnane O’Connor emphasised the importance of timely applications, stating that individuals must apply within six weeks. She added that their local Intreo office will provide support throughout the application process, describing this initiative as a welcome boost for those affected.
