UPDATE (12pm, 12th October, 2022) Irish Rail has confirmed that despite the efforts of staff, customers and rapid response of an ambulance crew the person did pass away with a spokesperson adding “Our thoughts are with family and friends”.
Earlier story:
A morning train from Waterford to Dublin had to stop in South Kilkenny for a time this morning to help care for an ill passenger.
The 7:50am service, which was due to pass through Thomastown, Kilkenny city, Bagenalstown and Carlow, was stopped at the crossing in Glendonnell, Mullinavat to allow paramedics to attend to somebody on board.
There’s no update as of yet on that person’s condition but the train has since returned to Plunkett station and its passengers are being accommodated on the train that’s due to depart at 11am.
