Locals that lose their job can no longer sign on for the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.
That’s even if their employers says the job loss is due to Covid-19.
No new applications are being allowed for the payment which is being phased out by the government.
People who are already on the PUP will continue on it until next year but the numbers on it have been dropping week-on-week.
Sarah Drea from Kilkenny Citizens Information told KCLR’s ‘The Way it is’ that locals who find themselves out of work will have to sign on for the jobseekers payment instead.
However she says while there are still a number of people availing of the pandemic payment locally “we’re not getting any sense of any new job losses because of covid”
