Extensive road resurfacing as opposed to the traditonal chip and tar job will be required to remedy many North Carlow roads that were damaged during Storm Chandra.
That’s the view of local Councillor, John Pender.
Carlow County Council has identified 27 roads across the county which require emergency works, projects which the Government has already indicated it will fully fund.
Speaking to KCLR News, Cllr. Pender said that some of the storm damaged roads will require more attention than others.
“There’s a number of areas, particularly in the North Carlow area around Hackestown and Clonmore, and maybe places like Killalongford and the Red Bog, and back at Coolmanna in Hackestown, and Lowerdown then in Myshall.”
“There’s a number of locations but in general, a lot of the country roads have been badly damaged, and potholes have appeared everywhere. So, look, the council are going to have to get very active, very shortly, to try and repair all of these areas.”
While Fianna Fáil TD Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere has called on the Taoiseach to introduce once-off emergency funding to repair extensive road damage caused by Storm Chandra in Carlow and Kilkenny.
