The opening of Talbot’s Tower in Kilkenny City has been delayed indefinitely.
Renovation works have been going on at the tower on Lower New Street, which formed part of the old city walls, for years now – with a view to opening it up to the public.
This was due to happen relatively soon, however, Japanese Knotweed has now resurfaced at the site.
The plant is an invasive weed and it’s an offence to actively spread it.
Malcolm Noonan had been actively campaigning to bring the project into public usage but he told KCLR that the opening has had to be postponed because the weed is so hard to get rid of.
