Preliminary works on the former Gynaecological ward at St Lukes hospital are close to completion.
A statement to KCLR on behalf of the hospital management this lunchtime says the maternity unit is now almost back to full capacity and able to accommodate any patients who present there.
In the past week two consultant obstetricians have separately expressed their concerns to KCLR over the plans to accommodate other patients on the maternity floor of the hospital.
Today’s statement says the hospital understands the concerns of obstetricians while the building works are underway and regrets any inconvenience caused.
Ultimately it says they will improve the services they provide to all the population they serve.
