Up to 40 people are understood to have taken part in a protest outside the River View House in Kilkenny City
It’s to be used to accommodate up to 28 people who are seeking International Protection.
Aoife O’Brien is with Kilkenny for All. She says the majority of Kilkenny people are welcoming…
“We were quite disappointed with the protest, and while we absolutely respect that people have a right to protest, Kilkenny City and County has always been a place that values community, acceptance and kindness.”
“I suppose we’re more disappointed over the fact that it’s Kilkenny says no, you know, we have a population of 28,000, and 40 people don’t represent that, the overarching sentiment of Kilkenny people, which is that we are, a welcoming home for people seeking safety and protection, and that we welcome newcomers to our town and our businesses.
