Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng said he was happy with his side’s effort after they edged Waterford by a point at UPMC Nowlan Park yesterday.
An injury-time free from Cian Kenny secured a 1–21 to 1–20 win for the Cats in a tight contest.
While Kilkenny were not perfect on the day, Lyng felt his players showed good character to stay in the game and finish strongly, particularly after missing a number of chances.
“We obviously made a few mistakes out there, but we’re really pleased with the effort from the lads to keep going. Sometimes you can drop the head when you have a few wides, but we’re really pleased to turn it around and get the win — particularly how we finished the game.”
The result was a step forward from Kilkenny’s previous outing against Limerick, where a slow start proved costly. In that game, Kilkenny hit four wides in the opening ten minutes and didn’t score until the 13th minute, ultimately losing the game.
