Uisce Éireann says recent upgrades to two sections of water mains in County Calrow will provide a more secure supply for its customers.
They’re replaced a 6.5km section which was prone to bursts, from Brownshill Resevoir to Straboe Crossroads, while in Bagenalstown 2.4km of aged cast iron mains have been swapped out for modern pipes.
47 old backyard service connections are also now gone, in their place a newly installed watermain in the public domain.
Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said that both projects will be massively beneficial for their locality and thanked all of those who were involved noting; “We wish to extend our thanks to the local communities for their patience and cooperation while these essential leakage repair works were carried out,” said Dave. “Were delighted to have completed them as they will have a positive impact in their local area.”
Both of these projects formed part of Uisce Eireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and will help the utility to achieve its 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the national Leakage Reduction Programme. Uisce Éireann is investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 – fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply.
