A status yellow alert for high temperatures comes into effect at lunchtime for Carlow, Kilkenny and 10 other counties in the south east and midlands.
The Met Éireann advisory runs to 7am on Sunday with temperatures due to go above 27 degrees and not fall below 15 degrees at night time, while the warm spell’s expected to last until next Thursday.
The Road Safety Authority is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, to reduce the risk of sun glare by wearing sunglasses and be aware of sun glare when travelling east this morning and west later in the day.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather outlined the forecast in his weekly slot on The KCLR Daily yesterday and this morning says hot weather is expected right across the country noting; “We have a continuation of the fine hot weather, we have reached heatwave status in some areas and we will see more heatwave status being reached today, temperatures up to 29 degrees with sunny spells developing across most areas by this afternoon”.
