Carlow and Kilkenny are among 12 counties issued with a Status Yellow high temperature warning.
Met Éireann’s notice runs from lunchtime tomorrow (Friday) to 7am on Sunday (12th July) with 27 degrees Celsius set to be exceeded>
Uncomfortable sleeping conditions are also expected.
Wexford, Laois, Kildare, Waterford, Tipperary, Meath, Westmeath, Longford, Limerick and Offaly are covered.
Meanwhile, a hot weather advisory remains in place for the whole country until Tuesday.
Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather outlined more in his weekly slot on The KCLR Daily;
If you choose to cool down by swimming you’re asked to do so at a lifeguarded pool or open waterbodies (such spots for Carlow and Kilkenny can be found here).
Added to that ESB is reminding you as the heat rises of the dangers and potentially serious consequences of swimming and other recreational activities in any ESB reservoirs and watercourses.
Its Manager of Hydro Operations, Henry Bouchier, says; “It is important that people take note of the safety warnings which are visible on signs posted around ESB reservoirs. These areas are unsafe for swimming due to deep, fast-flowing waters, fluctuating water levels, and uneven terrain, which present significant hazards to the public.”
These waters include the ESB reservoirs at:
- Poulaphouca in County Wicklow
- Golden Falls and Leixlip in County Kildare
- Inniscarra and Carrigadrohid in County Cork
- The Ardnacrusha headrace and tailrace canal in County Clare
- Assaroe, Lough Nacung and Lough Dunlewey in County Donegal
