School’s out for the spring – or at least Thursday and Friday.
In news Wednesday lunchtime, all schools – primary, post-primary and third level institutions – are set to close in Kilkenny and Carlow on Thursday and Friday. All schools in Leinster and Munster will be closed until Monday.
The news comes following Met Éireann’s elevation of the weather warning for the province to red for snow and ice. Their revised warning comes into effect at 4pm Thursday.

The majority of schools and centres across Carlow and Kilkenny were closed from early Wednesday due to heavy snowfall overnight. With more snow expected Thursday night, compounded by freezing temperatures, conditions won’t improve much before Friday.
