It’s a case of red alert for Kilkenny and Carlow.
Met Éireann have updated to a status red weather warning for snow and ice in Leinster as of Wednesday morning. At time of writing, the warning comes in to place 4pm Thursday through to midday Friday.
Update: All schools in Kilkenny and Carlow to close until Monday.
Blizzard-like conditions will develop in heavy snow and strong easterly winds on Thursday evening and will continue Thursday night and Friday morning giving significant snow drifts in many areas.
The Department of Education left decisions on school closures today, Wednesday, to individual schools depending on circumstances. Official news on school closures will be made throughout the day.
Kilkenny County Council have established a dedicated call centre for all emergency weather-related calls, on 056 7794125.
Significant snowfalls are expected between noon Wednesday and noon Thursday.
