Driving under the influence, while distracted or at speed were the main areas focused on by the Roads Policing Unit during the first road safety campaign.
It ran from 7am last Thursday across the weekend but has now concluded.
Thankfully there were no fatalities, but there were at least 15 crashes locally during that time while 16 people were arrested for drinking while under the influence of an intoxicant in the Kilkenny/Waterford division – it appears none such were recorded in the Carlow/Kildare region.
55 motorists were clocked speeding, 13 were issued Fixed Charge Penalty Notices for using a mobile phone while behind the wheel and 39 cars were seized for various motoring offences.
