There’s appears to be a sense of hopelessness with regards to the impact of silting on two key waterways in Carlow.
The build-up of dirt, mud and sand on stretches of the Barrow and Slaney rivers was a hot topic of discussion at yesterday’s county council meeting with representatives outlining concerns that boats are unable to navigate parts.
However, dredging can destroy habitats and is generally seen as a temporary measure.
