A Kilkenny Councillor says he is “deeply embarrassed” by his mistake after overclaiming hundreds of euro worth in expenses.
Fianna Fáil’s Ger Frisby was featured in a ‘Prime Time Investigates’ TV special last night looking into the expenses claimed by councillors for various meetings, conferences and training seminars.
Discrepancies were found with claims he had made for attending events as a member of the Kilkenny-Carlow Education and Training Board in 2017 and 2018.
In a statement to KCLR news Councillor Frisby admits an error on his behalf means he over-claimed expenses to the value of €745.92 – a figure he has agreed after consulting with the Finance Department of the Education and Training Board.
He says “This arose because of my attendance at additional events on the same dates on behalf of Kilkenny County Council and IT Carlow for which I also submitted a claim for travel and subsistence”.
Councillor Frisby also points out that he did attend all of the events in question but says that does not excuse his error.
He says he informed the Chief Executive of the Kilkenny-Carlow ETB in writing about what was brought to his attention and has since fully repaid the amount claimed in error.
