The results of a Transport Infrastructure Ireland review regarding a section of the N25 at Glenmore where a static speed camera was installed a year ago are due in the coming weeks.
The May meeting of Kilkenny County Council was informed of the TII review, where the five Piltown Municipal District Councillors called for a review of the speed signage approaching on that section of road for motorists approaching from New Ross.
While an average of 96 speed limit breaches were detected between last November and May, Kilkenny County Council Director of Services Mary Mulholland said it was worth noting that there are 14,500 vehicle movements on the road every day.
She told KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes; “Of the 14,500 people who use that road every day roughly one to one and a half per cent of those drivers are being detected as exceeding the speed limit, that’s quite a low number, it’s a high number of cars, but it’s a low number in the context of the daily use of the route so 98-99% of those using the route are adhering to the speed limit, and that’s to be welcomed”.
