South Kilkenny based TD Bobby Aylward says he has got assurances from his Fianna Fail party leader and colleagues, that they will support him in a bid to leave the Kilkenny Waterford boundaries untouched.
The matter could now come before the Dáil after the boundary commission recommended extending Waterford’s border into the south of the county taking fifteen thousand acres and four and a half thousand people with it.
An emergency meeting of Kilkenny county council is taking place next Monday to discuss the issue.
Councillors have voiced their disappointment and say they will not accept the decision while Oireachtas members have told KCLR they would not support it in a Dáil vote.
Deputy Bobby Aylward was asked if he would resign if the borders were moved but he says he doubts it will come to that.
