The granddaughter of Thomas MacDonagh attended a special event at MacDonagh Train station in Kilkenny this morning.
Muriel McAuley laid a wreath and open a newly planted memorial garden.
She also spoke at the event, as did Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council Mary Hilda Cavanagh and historian Laurence White from the Royal Irish Academy.
The station was renamed after the 1916 hero and proclamation signatory in 1966.
