Kilkenny Lions Club handed out over €12,000 to a variety of local groups on Friday night, following the success of their annual Christmas Hamper Appeal.
The funds, distributed during a special event at Bollard’s Bar in the city, were shared between charities, community organisations, and service offerings from Kilkenny city and county.
The appeal, run in partnership with KCLR and the Kilkenny People newspaper, raised approximately €42,000, with around €30,000 of that total being used to provide vouchers for those in need during the Christmas season.
At Friday’s presentation, local Lions Club President Gerry McGovern expressed the club’s joy in supporting those who contribute so much to the community. “We’re delighted to be able to help those who work tirelessly to make a difference locally,” McGovern told KCLR News.
The surplus funds were allocated to a variety of deserving causes, continuing the Lions Club’s tradition of supporting local communities, particularly during the festive season.
Anna Lynch from the KCLR newsroom spoke with some of the representatives from the groups who received funding.
