There may be more on Carlow and Kilkenny streets for the traditional day of Christmas shopping

You may notice more people out & about today.

The 8th of December is traditionally the date Christmas shopping is carried out by those in rural Ireland.

Once driven by the Catholic faith, it falls on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and typically saw people carpool from their rural dwellings to larger towns and cities.

Often that means a trip to Dublin or Cork but the hope is high that most will opt instead for the streets of Carlow and Kilkenny.
