A beloved institution in the heart of Tullow is bidding farewell after a century of service. PJ Duffy’s Drapery, a cornerstone of the town’s shopping scene, is set to close its doors for the final time this evening.
The family-owned store, which has been an integral part of the community for 100 years, will officially shut down operations at the end of business today.
Owner Arnold Mahon, 87, has decided that it is time to retire after 70 years at the helm of the historic store and has since seen it grow and evolve, always maintaining its reputation for quality and service.
For many in Tullow, PJ Duffy’s has been more than just a place to shop – it has been a hub for local gossip, a go-to spot for gifts, and a symbol of the town’s enduring charm.
“I’ve had the privilege of serving the people of Tullow for my entire life,” said Mahon. “It hasn’t always been easy, but it has been an incredible journey. I’ll miss the people the most – the customers, the staff, and the friends I’ve made over the years. But at 87, it’s time to take a step back.”
