What’s been described as a massive ‘heat dome’ across parts of Europe is being monitored closely by weather experts.
The phenomenon happens when high pressure traps hot air allowing temperatures to build and the current one has been linked to soaring temperatures across parts of western and southern Europe.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says Ireland will catch the edge of the heatwave; “We have much warmer and drier air moving up really from the south of France right up through western Europe into Ireland, we will see the edge of that heat with warmer days ahead, and a lot of dry weather as well with only the odd shower really on Monday and then largely dry until the risk of showers returns on Friday”.
