The draw for the next round of the Tailteann Cup took place earlier this week, but Carlow were not involved after their championship journey came to an end at the weekend against Leitrim.
Despite the disappointment of the defeat, Carlow manager Joe Murphy believes there are strong signs of progress within the squad after a season that also delivered silverware and promotion.
Murphy says the current group has laid important groundwork for the future.
“It’s a work in progress, we are still fairly new in this role. Unlike Carlow teams of maybe the last half a century we have something to build on. It wasn’t all for nothing. We built some form of foundation. We won two trophies.”
Carlow enjoyed a memorable campaign earlier in the year, claiming the Allianz Football League Division 4 title and securing promotion after victory in Croke Park.
Murphy also believes there is more talent emerging across the county that can strengthen the panel in the seasons ahead.
“We just have to keep moving forward and building and adding to the numbers and quality.
“There are certainly players around the county coming into the Carlow Championship that we will be looking at, and hopefully they will show the same interest as the guys we have here at the moment.”
