Gardaí are now appealing to locals in Freshford for help with their investigation into the death of a woman yesterday.
The young mother aged in her 20’s has been named locally as Rita Apine originally from Eastern Europe.
She was found at the bottom of a stairs at a home in Freshford shortly after midday yesterday and was taken to St Luke’s hospital where she later died.
Locals are shocked by her death. Councillor Michael McCarthy told KCLR news this morning that she had been living in Freshford for about six months only but was well known in the area.
Gardai meanwhile are particularly appealing to anybody who visited the local Costcutter shop, or who may have been in the Bridge Street area of Freshford Village, between the hours of 8am and 1pm on Sunday
If you were in the vicinity and heard or noticed anything out of the ordinary you’re asked to contact the Gardaí.
A Post Mortem examination is due to be carried out today at Waterford University hospital.
A Garda cordon remains in place at the scene in Freshford where a full technical examination will be carried out.
A man in his 30s arrested yesterday remains in Kilkenny Garda station for questioning.
