Ms Justice Mary Laffoy will now prepare a report from the Citizens Assembly she chaired for the Oireachtas, which must be delivered by the end of June.
There’s been a mixed response to the assembly’s majority vote for abortion with “no restriction as to reasons”.
KCLR Live asked each of the Oireachtas members in Carlow/Kilkenny if they support the recommendations of abortion without restrictions up to 12 weeks.
Fianna Fáil’s John McGuinness responded by saying he is pro-life.
His party colleague Bobby Aylward said No and Senator Jennifer Murnane O’Connor also said No, calling for a referendum to let the people decide.
Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion said Yes saying allowing for abortion without restrictions up to 12 weeks is reasonable.
Fine Gael’s John Paul Phelan said no, and Pat Deering also said he is not in favour of unrestricted abortion describing it as a very sensitive, emotional and complex issue.
