News that St Catherine’s Nursing home in Freshford is set to close has come as a huge surprise to locals.
Councillor Michael McCarthy has told KCLR News he has spoken with the owners who tell him “it’s a personal and circumstantial decision”.

More than 20 people are employed at the 26 bed home – many of them local.
It’s understood the residents and their families are to be given time to find alternative accommodation.
Councillor McCarthy says as far as he understands, there are no issues in terms of their registration.
And he says the decision to close has come as a big shock.
