38 new local authority homes are to be built in Callan.
Kilkenny county council approved a new residential development at Bolton in the town at a meeting yesterday.
It will include a mix of one, two, three and four-bed units to help address the housing needs in Callan.
Local Councillor Matt Doran says it will be a couple of years before they’re ready for living in.
He told KCLR news the 11 one-bed units will be particularly welcome.
Members were told at a meeting of the municipal district last week that one-bed homes are in high demand with a large percentage of those on the housing lists waiting on them.
