4 arrested as armed & masked men threaten staff & customers of South Kilkenny pub

4 men are being held for questioning following an attempted armed robbery in South Kilkenny last night.

At around 11.30pm 2 men wearing balaclavas entered Moloneys Pub in Skough and threatened staff and customers there with a firearm.

They fled empty handed in a dark coloured saloon car that was seen outside the pub.

Gardai from Mooncoin later stopped a car near Kildalton College and following a search of the vehicle the 3 occupants were arrested.

During a follow up search a fourth suspect was arrested in the Piltown area.

A firearm was also recovered by Gardai.

All 4 men are currently detained under section 30 of the offences against the state act.

One is aged in his teens, anothers in his 20’s and the other two men are in their 30’s – they are being questioned at Thomastown and Kilkenny Garda stations

Superintendent Derek Huges said “As always the community provided great assistance to the Gardai in this instance” and they are relieved that no one was injured
