“Whatever’s there , I’ll get it, I’ll take it” – the words of local TD Bobby Aylward after TD’s voted to give themselves a pay increase of €5,000 .
Sinn Féin’s motion to reject the restoration of that pay over the next two years was defeated yesterday evening.
Meanwhile, teachers and Gardaí have been taking industrial action recently in an effor to get their pay restored to previous levels.
Locally, TDs Pat Deering, Bobby Aylward, John McGuinness and John Paul Phlean voted to take the increase.
Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Function is the only local TD to reject the increase. Speaking to KCLR, Kathleen says it’s disgraceful anyone would consider rising the TD wage by €5000 ahead of increases on Social Welfare payments, new incoming Teachers, Gardaí and Nurses’.
Speaking to KCLR News, Deputy Aylward says he knows they’ll get backlash because of the current climate, but he feels the increase is deserved.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fail TD John McGuinness’s brother Eugene says the troika will be back as the government is spending our money incorrectly as a country who has to borrow money everyday to keep the books balanced.
