The Taoiseach’s stepping down as party leader from midnight tonight.
Enda Kenny’s also asking for the election of his successor to be expedited and announced by June 2nd.
He’ll continue as Taoiseach until sometime in June in order to let his successor have talks with other parties.
Speaking to KCLR this evening, Carlow TD Pat Deering has confirmed he will now be throwing his support behind Leo Varadkar, who is among the frontrunners to succeed Enda Kenny along with Simon Coveney.
