It’s hoped a new plan will help small law firms in Kilkenny and Carlow to stay in business.
The Law Society of Ireland says there are 18 solicitors firms in Carlow with five or fewer solicitors and 21 in Kilkenny.
They’ve unveiled a strategic plan to support and develop these businesses by providing recommendations on how best to operate.
Senior Vice-President of the society, Michele O’Boyle has told KCLR News it can be tough to keep going saying “Smaller law firms are not just like other small businesses, they are small businesses and as business owners we must be proficient & skilled at the day-to-day running of our businesses as well as practicing the law and that can be challenging. It’s important that smaller practices work &, where necessary, evolve to meet these challenges.”
Of the report Ms O’Boyle adds “it’s based on an extensive body of research involving a survey of hundreds of smaller firms from all over Ireland to include also focus groups & in-depth case studies. So the proposal will be that these recommendations will then be developed by the Law Society and hopefully that we will engage as practitioners to develop the recommendations in our own practices.”
