Council officials have had to explain an unfortunate blunder after the wrong grave was dug up to bury a deceased man.
The matter is being described as “sensitive” and centres on a recent burial at St Mary’s cemetery in Carlow town.
KCLR news understands that the wrong plot was dug up to lay a man’s remains to rest in St Mary’s cemetery the weekend before last.
The error, which has caused much embarrassment, was spotted a short time before the man’s burial and the correct grave was dug while the other man’s grave, had to be put back to its original state.
KCLR contacted Carlow County Council but were told the local authority would not be commenting on the issue.
While there is no official confirmation, it’s believed the mistake arose as both plots were close together with similarities including the name and year of death of the persons already buried there.
