Kilkenny City’s World War One monument was vandalised overnight.
The memorial at the Peace Park, just off Michael Street, is missing a piece.
The damage was discovered by a member of the committee which gathered funds to put it in place.
Speaking from the site, Cllr Joe Malone told KCLR News “the nose on the soldier with the helmet has been damaged, the nose is broken, it’s been chipped off”
Cllr Malone added “I called a number of months ago for CCTV in this area, unfortunately the statue is open to vandalism, I think there was paint sprayed on it before”.
He is calling on anybody who was in the area overnight who may have noticed suspicious activity or who may have information on the incident to contact gardaí.
