Councillor David Fitzgerald says the council need to do more to support businesses in Kilkenny

Local Kilkenny City councillor David Fitzgerald says “It’s a worrying time for businesses in Kilkenny”

It comes as Supervalu who are the anchor tenants in the Market Cross Shopping Centre in Kilkenny City announced yesterday that they are to close their doors at the end of November.

The closure means the loss of 38 jobs for people in the locality.

Councillor Fitzgerald also said “It’s a point I’ve been making for some time at Council level, the Council need to be more in-tune with the reality of business’ out there and in particular the recent decision to increase parking charges and also on the traffic system have not helped the potential for business to survive in Kilkenny Centre”
