Businesses are doing it for themselves.

With times tough it is great to see that the “blitz” spirit continues to thrive with businesses coming together to take collective action to improve their lot.

Carlow Chamber of Commerce is taking a lead in Carlow and Chamber President John Brophy was on the programme this week to tell us about the first steps taken in the establishment of a Retail Forum for the town where businesses of all kinds in Carlow are coming together to see what they can do as a collective to make things better.

It was a pleasure to talk to newly elected Chairman of ISME Eamonn Kielty who is a founder Director of Kielty Cashel and Money Plus one of Irelands best known financial brokers.  Eamonn spoke of how and why he sees investing huge amounts of time in a business representative organisation makes sense for his business and indeed for the business sector as a whole.

We’ve said it before on the programme but if you are thinking of starting a business its great to see that there are a plethora of courses and supports available. Killian Duignan joined us in studio to tell us about Recon Carlow a course organised by Carlow County Enterprise Board. The Recon course is 10 days of intensive training designed to help people with a business idea of those who are thinking about self -employment.  The name RECON is a nod to “Reconstruct” in that the course is designed to reconstruct their careers and get their businesses up and running

The Business Trouble Shooter Fergus Doyle was back in the studio again this week talking about the imperative to keep hunting for new business opportunities. Its something that he says owner managed businesses don’t do.  IT seems obvious but often in the apparently endless stream of regular “things to do” people often neglect to seek out and target new business opportunities. If you’d like to hear how Fergus could help your business you can contact him through his website www.thebusinesstroubleshooter.com

And of course we were joined on the programme by Tom Molloy from the Business Desk of the Irish Independent where he edits the daily business section of the paper. The weather being so glorious we turned to discussing sunshine and its impact on business; the Gathering; the need (or not) for a theme park in the South East and his experience judging the Ulster Bank Business Awards.

Edwina Grace produced the programme.

As always if you have something you’d like us to cover or you’d like to get in touch with the programme contact us on [email protected] or contact Edwina directly on [email protected]
