A serving Garda and five others have been arrested as part of an investigation into a missing drugs seizure in the Eastern Region.
It follows the alleged unauthorised removal of a substantial quantity of controlled drugs from a Garda Station in January 2024.
Yesterday in a joint operation involving various strands of An Garda Síochána carried out a number of searches in relation to organised crime within the Region.
Garda Anti-Corruption Unit personnel arrested a Garda who’s been detained under organised crime legislation while the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau investigating related alleged offences arrested five people; a man aged in his thirties and a woman in her forties have been detained at stations in the Midlands, a man aged in his forties is in custody at a Garda Station in the East for alleged related corruption offences and two men in the forties and fifties who were arrested and detained for alleged related drug trafficking have been released pending files to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A garda spokesperson says investigations continue and are being led by a Senior Investigating Officer from the Eastern Region which covers counties Carlow and Kilkenny as well as Wexford, Wicklow, Waterford, Laois, Kildare, Offaly, Meath and Westmeath.
