While frustration over the Ferrybank Shopping Centre’s future remains palpable both locally and in County Hall, talks are ongoing about putting the centre’s extensive car parking facilities to fuller use.
Kilkenny County Council hopes to reach agreement with the centre’s owners about providing a parking solution for local sporting organisations along with those dropping off and picking up children as St Mary’s Boys National school.
Local Councillor Ger Frisby explained the state of play to KCLR News. “It’s a huge bottleneck, St. Mary’s is a dangerous proposition at the moment that needs to be looked at.”
“If the car park could be used for both sports clubs, there’s Ferrybank AFC and Ferrybank GAA, because, there’s nowhere to park on busy days and it usually culminates around weekends, Saturdays and Sundays – there’s cars parked everywhere, so the car park would be a welcomed addition to have the use of for that purpose.”
