An outline of a new Kilkenny City North Transport Project, which would complete the city’s Ring Road, was presented to City Councillors this week.
Atkins Réalis has been appointed as project manager and will hold a public information day at the Mayfair Library on Tuesday, March 3rd, from 10 am to 7:45 pm.
Speaking to KCLR News, Councillor David Fitzgerald said it was vital that this long-delayed project proceeds, following previous false starts.
“It’s a very important day that we’re finally progressing this project because the entire city needs it, the entire county needs it, and in particular, St. Canices parish needs
to get traffic relief in that area as soon as possible.” said mr Fitzgerald.
“But the cost of the project has now jumped by approximately €35,000,000 according to the Director of Services, which is an enormous jump, but she also said that the project is not covered by the National Development Plan, and because of that, all the funding is going to have to be found locally.” he added.
