Promotion remains firmly in Carlow’s own hands despite a setback yesterday, as they fell to a 1–19 to 1–14 defeat against Longford at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
The result means Carlow missed an opportunity to secure promotion, but the situation remains clear-cut. Wins in either of their remaining fixtures will be enough to earn promotion to Division 3, along with a place in a Croke Park final.
Joe Murphy’s side return home for their final two games, hosting London on Saturday, March 15th, with throw-in at 6pm, before welcoming Leitrim on Sunday, March 22nd at 1pm.
Speaking on the KCLR Sport Podcast, Carlow manager Joe Murphy reflected on where the game slipped away from his side.
“I think in the manner that we went to control the game — or didn’t control the game as it were — maybe wrong decisions at times, at the important times.
We didn’t take our chances as well.
There was a lot going on through my mind that didn’t go right, but they’re all fixable. Some days you just get a bad day at the office, and unfortunately for such a big and important game, we had it today.”
